What is this course about?

This microlearning course is a short introduction to how we can plan for writing lessons which give students the opportunity to explore the language choices that writers make in their texts, and to make connections between grammatical choices and the communicative or rhetorical effect they have in a particular text.

Why participate?

Through completing this course, participants will:

  • Plan writing lessons to foster understanding of language choices.
  • Understand the grammar-writing connection
  • Generate metalinguistic talk in the literacy classroom
  • Model, scaffold and jointly construct model texts for teaching
  • Explore writing as a craft

Who should participate?

  • Teachers - Years F-6
  • Literacy leaders

What else do I need to know?

This is a perfect opportunity for colleagues to work together in a PL session, or independently as part of their professional development practice. This course is self-paced and unmoderated, meaning all participants have access to materials for the duration of Term 4 2023.

How does it work?

  • Individuals: upon registration individuals will be sent a link to access the PL on our online learning platform.
  • Group Booking (up to 25 staff): One staff member must register on behalf of their school and will then be required to email us the names, job titles and email addresses of teachers they wish to enrol.
