What is this course about?

This course integrates music and the Arts into the morning English block, to engage young learners and support them in their beginning reading journey. Teachers will learn a range of chants, rhymes and songs to support structured literacy teaching. Simple percussion instruments will be used to create soundscapes and characterisations that build comprehension, and add excitement to class read-alouds and reading activities in classrooms. Participants use body percussion and singing voices to experience the rhyme and rhythm of texts, simultaneously learning about musical concepts like loud and soft (dynamics), high and low (pitch) and timbre (the distinctive quality of the sound) whilst learning to read.
